What is god modding?

It's actually correctly called "godmoding", in reference to the "god mode" you can enter in a computer game to become invincible.

In roleplay, it means trying to exert too much control over the plot and other characters, usually because the player has no concept of in character or out of character and is there to "win" and satisfy their ego rather than be creative and collaborative. Examples:

1) Invincibility
Creating a character so powerful and invulnerable that it cannot take any damage, be incapacitated or hindered, lose a fight, feel pain etc.

2) Dictating other players' responses
Swinging a punch and telling the other player that they are down, that they are unconscious, cut, dead or whatever. In sexual roleplay, it might mean dictating someone else's level or signs of arousal.

3) Impossibility
Drawing a knife when your hands are tied. Pulling a bow out of your rectum when you're on the ground and hogtied (I wish I were making this up). Drawing a bow out of your rectum at all, come to that. Being held by the hair and with a knife at your throat but whizzing round and slapping your captive and disarming them.

4) Just plain silliness
Taking the plot to asinine turns purely to avoid your character having to suffer a misfortune too weak for your manly fictitious self. Being shot at and deflecting the bullet with a penny on a string so that it flies back up the gun nozzle. Again, I wish I were making this up.

5) Anything that is used to let one character force the plot and does not enable the story to be a properly collaborative effort with plausibility.

It's annoying, anti-social, counterproductive and makes you look stupid. Nobody thinks the godmoder is strong, hard, cool or intelligent. We think you have no consideration, no understanding of roleplay and no intelligence whatsoever. Don't do it.

The only people who can dictate how the plot of a story goes is the creator of the story. Doing anything that deviates from his/her plot is also godmodding.

This is a problem that I have seen on many rp sites, including this one. If we are to get more people to rp on this site we need to fix that.

You know who you are if you are goddmodding. If you do not stop, i can assure you, some of us will take antigodmodding measures.

Just in case you do not understand the first message about what goddmodding is, i have a few more definitions.

"God Modding" is in essence when someone’s character has the ability to do practically anything without limits or boundaries. And example is when they simply cannot be harmed by any and all means other RP-ers try. -It can be killing or injuring a character without the player's express permission. -It can be when they simply can’t be hit and dodge all attacks or anything for this matter aimed at them. -It can also be using other characters that other people RP with. In other words, if you do not RP as Legolas, then you cannot have Legolas say anything, or do anything, without the player's express permission. The absolute worst is when they make out another character to be what they’re not, just to make their own character seem superior. They make others seem weak, screaming for help, when they’ve made it quite clear about their advantages and strengths. This is called power-play. It’s a strain of God-Modding, but instead of just being irritating, it’s offensive to boot.
This is a prime example of God Modding:

Player A: Punches Player B
Player B: Dodges attack, grabs Player A and throws him. Player A flies at Player B, who warps behind him and slashes Player A in the back.

The term god modding comes from roleplaying. God modding is creating a character who is of an invincible nature and can do anything. God modders are also infamous for bunnying other characters' actions.
An example of god modding is making a spikey blonde hair character that can fly and toss energy balls that can level cities while being nigh indestructable.

A term used in role-playing games or situations that describes someone as using an over powered emote that allows them to feat any RP obstacle thrown at them.

**This term is often over used and misunderstood, due to the fact that it can be confused with an other meaning of the word "God Modding", which is a bannable high powered in-game hack that allows that particular player unbelievable power in the game, such as invulnerability, extreme damage and possibly the ability to Noclip (fly).
Example of God Modding as can be seen In-Game

Gothran is surrounded on all sides by enemies.

Gothran pulls a gnomish grenade out of his pocket, throwing it down. He puts a shield on protecting him from the blast while the grenade blows all his enemies back! He then calls his noble dragon and quickly rides off into the distance cackling!

It's a term used in rps that is used when someone does an action/actions that are impossible to defend against. It is also used when someone describes how the other person is affected by it, thus leaving the player unable to rp his/her own character.

For fighting, it's being able to dodge everything and always hit your opponent. For other things, like using something that takes over someone's mind, it's saying that you take over their mind and do this or that to them without allowing them to figure out if they can defend against it.

Being a God Modder is a sign of douch baggedry and makes it to where other player's do not want to rp with you.
Fighting: person A dodged person B sword attack, and then dodged the lightning bolt from the sky that person B cast. Person A then Hit's person B, sending person B flying, then hit's person B with a huge fire bolt, thus burning person B.

Person A wins the fight and harms person B because person A made it impossible to hit him, then he made it to where B was affected by everything.

Mental: person A cast's a spell on person B, now person B is under person A's control. Person A then tells person B to go commit suicide, person B is now dead.

Person A get's rid of person B do to god modding because they forced the other person to be affected by it and say how B reacted without letting B do anything.

I think we should all understand the rules quite clearly now.

1) The only people able to set how the plot goes is the creator(s) of the RP. But even then, they can not make their characters all powerful, and most don't.

2) Follow ALL rules of a person's RP.

Example: If the creator says that humans can not have certain abilities, then THEY CANT.

Rules are NOT meant to be broken in an RP. They are meant to be followed. If you do not follow the rules you CAN and, if it's one of my RPs you WILL, be kicked from the RP.

3) You can not harm any playable character unless you have permission. The only acception is an NPC that is not essencial to the RP, or if harming the playable character is needed and the other player relays the action.

Ex:
Maria's post: Maria attacks Richard, trying to kick his legs out from under him and break a bone.

Richard: Richard is unable to block her attack and feels as his leg is broken. He cries out in pain and the shadow demon possessing him runs out to try and find a new body.

See. The action was needed to get rid of the 'evil' in Richard. So Richard let her attack hit.

Now i have work. I will post more when i return.

4) You can not take control of another player's character, or a main NPC unless given permission by said person who owns the player in the case of the player character, or the RP maker in the case of the NPC. NO ACCEPTIONS.

5) You can only use powers that your profiles say you have, unless otherwise allowed or imputed by the RP Creator.

6) All profiles must be approved by the RP Creator. If they say it is not, then you MUST redo it.

That is all the rules I have about non godmodding, however More can and most likely WILL be added as the need arises.

Thank you. I expect people to start listening to these rules. I'm sure the others who do not godmod agree with me.
